San Martin Reefs

In the last 5 years the population of St. Martin of visitors has increased dramatically. While this situation has proved lucrative for the islanders who are concerned about the disrepair and decay of the natural beauty of the island. Currently there are many efforts that are presented to preserve the different species of turtles that nest on the island and coral, some of which are found only in Narikel Jinjera.

Several places you coral reefs are being eliminated, to be sold to tourists. The turtle nests are sometimes taken as food, and their offspring are often distracted by the lights flicker-ing along the beach. Fish species, some recently discovered, are being over-exploited.

Every year the fishermen are venturing out to sea to get their catch. Most of them are using motor boats because they are made easier.

At high tide the island is about 3 miles, and tightness in the middle. The island only exists because of its coral base, thus eliminating the risk of erosion of coral beaches.

St. Martins has lost about 25% of its coral reefs in the last 7 years, thus continuing on the island will lose its charm.
